Serials Solutions beta product, Summon, is something to watch. I heard about this morning on the Library 2.0 Gang podcast and saw the introductory video on their site.
Basically, instead of passing a search to multiple databases and then bringing back results to a single display, Summon provides a single search index. In the podcast I got the idea that actual article content was being pulled into the service, but in the video the e-journal article linker product was shown, so maybe it's just metadata that is being pulled into create the single index. It is a hosted service, but the search interface can be locally run if clients want fuller access to customising it. Andrew Nagy of Serials Solutions also reported in the podcast that it would work with discovery interfaces Aquabrower and Vufind.
