I look forward to seeing how openID goes as more sites support it. Managing online accounts was one of the complaints from library 2.0 sceptics identified at the library 2.0 unconference at Queensland State Library.
Simon Willison explains OpenID and also has a screencast, but basically you get a URL that you can use to sign in to any site supporting openID.
If you have a bloglines account, you have an openID.
