Peter Thompson of LaTrobe University Bendigo, presented the Sandhurst Mechanics' Institute Library. This project involved the establishment of a database of one of the few (almost) intact collections of this type. Not only has a catalogue been created, but the database is also being populated with borrowing records from the time to present a fascinating picture of library science of the time and the cultural and social habits of the era.
The collection dates from 1854 and was used by many famous Bendigo residents including Sidney Myer.
